The
adventures of John Storm and the Elizabeth Swann. John Storm is an ocean
adventurer and conservationist. The Elizabeth Swann is a fast solar
and wind
powered boat. During a race around the world, news of the sinking of a
pirate whaling ship reaches John Storm and his mate Dan Hawk. They
decide to abandon the race and try and save the wounded whale.
CAPTAIN SILAS CROWE – BACKSTORY
Early Life
Born in a Cornish fishing village, son of a trawler captain.
Silas grew up with salt in his veins, learning seamanship before he could read.
His father’s boat was lost in a storm when Silas was a teenager. The insurance company refused to pay out, citing “operator negligence.” That betrayal hardened him against institutions and law.
Naval Career
Crowe joined the merchant navy young, rising quickly through the ranks. Known for his discipline and uncanny ability to read the sea.
He earned the nickname “Crowe the Cold” for his calmness in crises—he could watch men drown and still steer the ship to safety.
Captain Silas left under a cloud after a collision scandal in the South China
Sea. Officially cleared, but whispers of negligence and bribery followed him.
Descent into the Grey Zone
Recruited by shadow shipping companies operating under flags of convenience. These firms specialized in “dirty work”—illegal dumping, arms smuggling, toxic cargo.
Crowe became their most reliable captain: discreet, efficient, unflinching. He didn’t ask questions about the cargo, only demanded his cut.
Over time, he developed a reputation as a “ghost captain”—his ships appeared in ports under false names, then vanished into international
waters.
Personality & Philosophy
Fatalist: Believes the ocean is indifferent, swallowing saints and sinners alike. This belief justifies his actions—he sees himself as a servant of inevitability, not morality.
Pragmatist: He doesn’t rant or rage; he issues orders with quiet certainty. His menace lies in his calmness.
Haunted: Keeps a rusted compass from his father’s trawler. Sometimes stares at it in silence, as if wondering when he lost his way.
Present Day – The Black Tide
Crowe commands the Black
Tide, a freighter turned environmental weapon. He knows its hull is corroded, its cargo lethal, but he treats it like any other job.
To his crew, he’s both feared and respected: a man who never flinches, never falters.
To the world, he’s invisible—just another name on a shipping manifest. But to John Storm, Shui Razor, and the orcas, he’s the human face of systemic desecration.
Cinematic Hook for His Character
When we first meet him, Crowe should feel like a man already half a ghost—someone who has lived too long at sea, cut off from morality, yet still tethered by fragments of memory. His presence makes the Black Tide more than just a ship; it becomes an extension of his fatalism.
